neil's mirrormask on dvd

Best DVD cover of 2006? The disc will be available February 7th.

"Absolute Sandman starts in 2006; there was no announcement of price or extras yet, but DC will be recoloring the early issues of the Sandman series to match the higher production values of the later issues, as well as touching up the lettering in some issues where reversed lettering dropped out a bit. This is part of a plan to do every Sandman story in the Absolute format. Concurrent with the publication of Absolute Sandman, DC will not be keeping the current hardcovers edition collections of the series in print." - DC News from the RRP Meeting

kinski and scarlett

Before Scarlett was all that she made a great ( for its genre ) little movie called "AN AMERICAN RHAPSODY". That she was able to steal the movie from Kinski speaks volumes about where she was headed.
+ Ebert's review gets a lot right.

Speaking of Nastassja Kinski, this is a  "Paris, Texas" inspired photo shoot.

Speaking of Wim Wenders, Sarah Polley is in his new movie. If you need a Sarah Polley movie to watch, let me mention "Guinevere".

jena vs miranda

J. Malone, Lake Tahoe // M. July, Paris

In the current issue of Blackbook Magazine1 Jena Malone2 and Miranda July correspond with each other. At one point Jena3 sends Miranda the photo on the left and asks her to send a picture of what comes next - thus the picture on the right.

1 it is not worth linking to their webpage since it hasn't been updated to reflect what's on the stands - isn't it sad?

2 the most commented upon entry on this here blog.

3 who comes across as one interesting bird. very into name anagrams.

How come you don't fall into my arms

[ How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore ] Sometimes it feels like I'm gonna die If u don't call me, mama, girl, u gotta try Down on my knees beggin' u please, please

[ Into My Arms ] I don't believe in an interventionist God But I know, darling, that you do But if I did I would kneel down and ask Him, Not to intervene when it came to you Not to touch a hair on your head, To leave you as you are And if He felt He had to direct you, Then direct you into my arms

Pretty Little Cover ?

Out December 27th. Random Fact: Fiona and Nellie are on the same label.

+ Costello News - Nellie McKay (whose link to Broadway is forthcoming in Roundabout's "Threepenny Opera" revival in the spring) recalled the messy outspokenness of vintage Costello appearances in her rambling political comments -- lamenting how the exit of Harriet Miers has made way for a far more dangerous force and then lurching into an anti-fur spiel. And the young singer channeled a jaded Peggy Lee indifference that worked well in her airy, eccentric take at the piano on "Party Girl."
