get your Superman going on

Recommended books if you want to get your Superman fever going in anticipation of the film.

+ doctorpop review - Showcase Presents Superman - You know all those "Superman is a dick" sites with the funny covers and everything? This is the start of that period. This is wild, crazy, insane, hard to believe stuff, and the thing about it is that this isn't a greatest hits collection. This isn't a "holy wow look at all the fucked up Superman stories that got published" collection. This is a chronological, complete, non-cherry-picked collection of the stuff that came out, and man, LSD wasn't even available yet. These guys were on bennies and booze or nothing at all.

Marvel Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E #5 Crayon Butchery Variant

This comes out today. A comic book you can color yourself. If you don't like this you are clearly a communist.

Young Rimbaud

If you are young and you don't happen to be Arthur Rimbaud
we would prefer not to hear from you
and if you happen to be Arthur Rimbaud
we definitely don't want to hear from you

Leonard Cohen, The Book of Longing

What I liked were: absurd paintings, pictures over doorways, stage sets, carnival backdrops, billboards, bright-colored prints, old-fashioned literature, church Latin, erotic books full of misspellings, the kind of novels our grandmothers read, fairy tales, little children's books, old operas, silly old songs, the naive rhythms of country rimes.
