Dear Dominique

Dominique

What the hell were you thinking? You were born to play Dolores Haze then for the longest time I had to refer to you as "Travolta's daughter in Face/Off". Years of absolutely lameness and then I miss this movie. Well, let's hope that years in the making movie with Thora Birch, Jena Malone and Marla Sokoloff gets you back on track. Also, ask Nick Cassavetes if he can get you into Iron Man. Tony Stark needs a cute secretary.

Dear Parker Posey

Parkerposeyout

"Why do we love Parker Posey?  That's easy: She's a fascinating actress. A natural beauty, and an iron willed woman who refuses to play by Hollywood rules. Plus she has one pisser of a wait."
Out Magazine, February 1999

Of course that quote was right before she did Scream 3. I ignored the first time she went Hollywood in a Tom Hanks movie but I didn't mind Scream 3 much. Damn it, she was terrible in Blade Trinity. Has it really been been ten years since Party Girl? Can't someone do an adaptation of "Brightness Falls" and put her in it? She'd make a great recovering yuppie.

Time Out London Woman of the Year

Coverw145

Scarlett Johansson Speaks
The actress updates us regarding 'Mission Impossible III'.

Scarlett Johansson may well be the busiest woman in showbiz. The luminous New Yorker starred in two of the year's most critically acclaimed movies ('Lost in Translation' and 'Girl With a Pearl Earring'), toured the world promoting them, became the face of Calvin Klein's new fragrance, and somehow found time to work on a further three high profile productions ('In Good Company' opposite Dennis Quaid, the as-yet-untitled new Woody Allen film, and an update of Oscar Wilde's 'Lady Windermere's Fan' entitled 'A Good Woman').

However, when talking exclusively to Time Out, it was a 2005 project that really got the actress excited, namely 'Mission Impossible III'.

It seems the much-delayed Tom Cruise-starring sequel will finally go into production in the autumn of next year, with 'Alias' creator JJ Abrams at the helm.

'It's been postponed till September while it's rewritten', Johannson explained, 'but I'm doing weapons training for it!'

'Just pulling a trigger is easy enough, but when you're loading your magazine and you have a machine gun and a handgun and a shotgun, and you're trying to figure out how to use them all… I'm being trained by someone who was in the special forces, so I get to know interesting stuff, like how they train the Iraqi army.'

Rather than playing the shrinking violet, or dull love interest then, it seems the young actress will indeed be firing guns, and lots of them from the sound of it.

Before that however, Johansson has to finish work on Michael Bay's 'The Island', opposite Ewan McGregor, and 'The Black Dahlia' a Brian De Palma directed adaptation of James Ellroy's brilliant crime novel.

All of which suggests that no matter how big a year 2004 was for the young actress, 2005 is all set to eclipse it in every way, shape and form.

John O'Connell's full interview with Scarlett Johansson appears in Time Out London December 21 2004 – January 5 2005. No. 1792/1793.

'Lost' Finds Fans in Video Stores, Theaters
Tue February 10, 2004 02:43 AM ET
By Brett Sporich
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The DVD for Oscar-nominated arthouse hit "Lost in Translation" has topped the 1 million sales mark after its first week in release, even as the film continues to play well at the box office.

"Even with the film still being in theaters, the DVD has sold through at an incredibly high rate at retail,"
Universal Studios Home Video president Craig Kornblau said Monday.

"This unprecedented release pattern, both in theaters and on DVD, demonstrates that for this title, the market can robustly sustain both releases by capitalizing on the incredible awareness among audiences."

Four Oscar nominations and three Golden Globe awards, including a best actor win for Bill Murray, have generated vast publicity for the film. Ticket sales were boosted by an estimated $2.2 million during the weekend to $40 million.

"Lost," also starring Scarlett Johansson, sold more than 350,000 DVD units or about 21% of its initial shipment of 1.5 million discs to retailers during its first 24 hours on store shelves across the country.

Trailers for Movies I want to see

Well, its Golden Globes night, Scarlett just lost to Annie Hall ( you could hear me yelling "F U you old crow" for miles around). Lets talk movies. Here's two that are coming soon. Lars will be an eternal genuis for Riget. A big F U to ABC for their crummy looking from the commercials american version of The Kingdom.

dogville.jpg

From an online review " DOGVILLE is a must-see film but it may not be appropriate for the politically prudish or below-average IQ moviegoers who prefer the film spell out for them. It will blow your mind and haunt you long after the film ends. Lars is undeniably a professional mindraper and I gladly embrace that fact. "

Focus Features is on a roll. "Lost In Translation", "21 Grams" and "Swimming Pool". I absolutely can't wait for their next flick; "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". This is the best part of the trailer:

'Vinyl'

Dec. 22, 2003

Zelniker's 'Vinyl' spins roles for Faris, Sokoloff

Anna Faris, who turned heads for her bubbly turn in Sofia Coppola's "Lost in Translation," will team with "The Practice" star Marla Sokoloff to star in Richard Zelniker's "Vinyl." Thora Birch and Jena Malone have already signed on to the project, which is due to start shooting in February in Los Angeles. Zelniker is directing from his own script. "Vinyl" centers on the women behind a male rock 'n' roll band that is on the verge of breakout success. Faris will play the live-in girlfriend of the band's bad-boy lead guitarist. Sokoloff will star as a bar waitress who wreaks havoc on the band when she comes between a band member and his girlfriend. Other casting is expected to be announced in January. Bill Bannerman and Tom Rooker are producing for Zelniker. Faris is repped by the Gersh Agency and Raw Talent. Her other credits include the "Scary Movie" franchise and "May." Sokoloff is repped by Endeavor and Myles Levy at James/Levy/Jacobson. She next stars in the 2004 Sundance Film Festival entry "Home of Phobia." (Chris Gardner)
